So you think you've got what it takes to be a Marcher Lord, do you? Well, here's your chance to find out.

Marcher Lord Press publishes only the coolest speculative stories from the Christian worldview. So if you've got one you think is amazing but you realize the traditional Christian publishing industry is not the place for you, you're in the right place.

And I'm about to give you the opportunity to prove that you can take your place on the wall beside the stalwart men and women who have gone before you as Marcher Lord Press authors.

But before you go any further, you must understand how Marcher Lord Press is different from traditional Christian publishers. If you read that and you still feel you qualify, then read on.

caveat scriptor

Marcher Lord Press uses a Web form for the first round of its acquisitions.

After reviewing literally thousands of proposals from aspiring authors, Marcher Lord Press leadership has determined that 98% of acquisitions decisions can be made by answering a handful of key questions.

This form asks those questions. Some of them are go/no-go questions. If you do not meet their criteria, your proposal will not be considered.

This isn't about hoops you have to jump through or special formatting you have to use or your proposal will be rejected. This is a set of straightforward questions that require nothing but straightforward answers.

For instance, if you do not have a complete manuscript in the genre Marcher Lord Press publishes, you can save yourself the time submitting your idea and instead spend it finishing the book.

If your completed manuscript is shorter than 65,000 words, you need not apply.

If you are writing children's books or picture books, you need not apply.

If your novel isn't in a speculative genre (like science fiction, fantasy, or the like), look elsewhere.

If your book does not arise from a Christian worldview and is not in any real sense a Christian book, please do not proceed.

Such questions are deal-breakers. Be forewarned.

Marcher Lord Press urges you to get your novel in the best shape you know how. You are strongly advised to read every one of the tips at the WhereTheMapEnds Fiction Writing Tip of the Week column and rigorously apply them to your novel. If you do not, it will show and your book is likely to be rejected.

Note that using the editorial services of WhereTheMapEnds in no way entitles you to special or preferential consideration for Marcher Lord Press acquisitions decisions.

Marcher Lord Press authors do not have to be represented by an agent to be considered for publication. This is one of the ways Marcher Lord Press is to be preferred over standard publishing companies.

If you meet these criteria and feel you are qualified to proceed, please do so. We welcome your ideas.
