Character Creation for the Plot-First Novelist
Jeff Gerke
Character Creation for the Plot-First Novelist takes the mystery out of creating characters for fiction. Your character begins when you choose a core personality type, and then grows as you add onto that from seven major angles.
The whole system culminates in a monologue you'll write that shows you (sometimes quite surprisingly) that you really do fully know who this character is and how he or she acts, dresses, looks, and—most importantly for fiction—talks and thinks.
Character Creation for the Plot-First Novelist contains:
- The character creation template (you'll fill this out for every character you create) (Word document)
- The instruction manual (PDF)
- CharPick Minor Character Generator (this one component works on PC/Windows only; all the rest will work on PC or Mac)
- CharPick Instruction Manual
- Help document: "What To Do First"
Character Creation for the Plot-First Novelist is designed to work with a book called Please Understand Me II by David Keirsey. You can use the system without that book, but not at full effectiveness. The book can be found at most libraries and for sale at your local bookstore.
Note that you will not be prompted to download this product at purchase. When Marcher Lord Press staff sees your order, we will send you the link to the download page.
Note to MAC Users: Character Creation for the Plot-First Novelist works for PC or Mac. However, one small component of the bundle--the CharPick minor character generator--works only with PC.
Thank you so much for your character creation system. I've banged my head against the wall for years trying the make my characters "real" to me with the many other character question sheets out there, and it's never worked for me. I didn't really care what their favorite flavor of ice cream was when I didn't know how they would react to adversity. So thank you so much for developing it and sharing it with us. It's heightened the level of my craft faster than I'd ever imagined.
