who is marcher lord press?

Marcher Lord Press is Jeff Gerke, who has been called "the de facto gatekeeper of the spec-fic genre."

With the help of some fantastic freelance artists, technicians, and wordsmiths, Jeff has conceived and founded Marcher Lord Press.

Jeff entered the Christian publishing industry as a novelist, under the pen name Jefferson Scott. His first novels were near-future technothrillers, firmly within the realm of Christian speculative fiction.

After his first novels were released by Multnomah Publishers, Jeff went on staff with Multnomah as a book editor. He edited and acquired for Multnomah for over two years.

During this time he attended his first-ever Christian writer's conference and discovered fellow novelists who loved Christian fantasy and science fiction. Their shared frustration over the lack of outlets for their breed of fiction formed the early genesis of Marcher Lord Press, and that was way back in 1999.

Jeff left Multnomah in 2002 and wrote his next three novels, the Christian military thriller series called Operation: Firebrand. He also co-wrote a nonfiction title with Ryan Dobson during this time. Be Intolerant went on to sell over 94,000 copies and made Jeff a best-selling author.

In 2004 Jeff went to work for Strang Communications in Lake Mary, Florida. There he spearheaded the launch of Realms, the only Christian fiction imprint to specialize in speculative fiction. During this time Jeff co-authored his eighth book, Say Goodbye to Stubborn Sin, with Christian surgeon Clark Gerhart.

In 2005 Jeff left Strang/Realms to come run the fiction department at NavPress. There he was able to expand their fiction line into speculative waters by acquiring the Restorer fantasy trilogy by Sharon Hinck and Demon: A Memoir, a supernatural thriller by Tosca Lee.

In 2006 Jeff left NavPress to strike out on his own. In September 2006 he launched www.WhereTheMapEnds.com, one of the premier sites on the Web for Christian fantasy and science fiction. Where the Map Ends features interviews with Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti, and other leaders in Christian speculative fiction, and is the home of Jeff's Fiction Writing Tip of the Week column, which he still maintains.

Where the Map Ends is where Jeff operates his book doctoring and editing enterprise. He has also developed a rigorous system for creating memorable characters for fiction, called Character Creation for the Plot-First Novelist.

Jeff lives in Colorado Springs with his wife and family. He holds degrees from film school and seminary. He drinks Mountain Dew, plays the acoustic guitar, loves Battlefield 2 online, and cheers himself hoarse for the Dallas Cowboys. He is a popular teacher at Christian writing conferences. Whenever he has a moment and a creative spark he noodles on his current writing project, an epic fantasy.
